These include hybrid electrics like Toyota Priuses and Ford Escapes as well as E85, ethanol compatible flex-fuel vehicles and vehicles that run on propane and compressed natural gas. The city has also begun to fuel appropriate diesel vehicles with biodiesel fuel. The city fleet facility carries E85 and biodiesel fuels. The city fleet has also committed to a zero increase in the number of vehicle miles traveled.
- Actual GHG Savings Achieved: In 2006, the city achieved its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels. The city intends to continue its AFV purchase commitment.
- Barriers and incentives: There are incentives for the purchase of dedicated AFVs such as hybrids and compressed natural gas vehicles. The city receives these in the form of a reduced vehicle purchase price. Boulder residents can take advantage of state and federal tax credits.
